The Humble Towering Story

The story of Hotel Thimphu Towers is one of a humble mud house built when the town was first established in the early 1960s. The new building has the concept of providing affordable services with a sustainable model.

The current seven story building is the tallest building towering above the rest in the town square. However, it has retained the pure traditional architecture façade of a Bhutanese building. Some of the special features include the life size windows of the top floors, massive kachens (pillars) and the intricate delicate carvings on the pillars and the beams.

Energy Efficiency

The entire windows are fitted with double glazed glasses (20mm with argon insulation) and wooden frames that offer the best thermal insulation that increases the energy efficiency in the building. Major central heating system has been deliberately avoided to pioneer the concept of sustainable heating system.

Made in Bhutan

Except for the glasses, beds and linens, and electro mechanical equipment, a conscious effort has been made to proudly make everything in Bhutan for the Hotel. With 90% of the construction materials and procurement having Bhutanese origins. We have sourced major materials like cement, rods, furniture, timber and services contractors from within Bhutan.

Puna Farm to Thimphu Fork

Most of the vegetables and ingredients are sourced or in the process of being sourced from our own farm in Punakha valley (70 km away from Thimphu). We collectively own a farmland of 50 acres that produces rice, vegetables and many agricultural products based on organic farming concepts.

The Hospitality Team

The hospitality team is led by the Proprietor, Mrs. Tshering Wangmo who is enthusiastic and passionate about meeting people and exceeding customer services expectations. Her team is especially trained in sustainable concepts on energy savings, waste management and skills development for the Bhutanese youth.
